ROSALIND'S RETIREMENT BEGINS

The Legacy Of a Breeding Legend

There was a flurry of excitement as Rosalind went into labor January 3rd of Y15 and it was for a good reason. The breeding blue hen mare was giving birth to the last foal of her breeding career and the sire is none other than the BHOF/HOF Merry Bay King. Bethany Cavallo, IRS' Broodmare Manager reported that the mare was a pro and she delivered a handsome looking chestnut colt. The beginning of Y16 marks the official yearling training for the last foal of this mare's career as he was shipped to Stride Of Perfection Stables to begin the foundational training for his career as a professional racehorse. We wanted to wish SOPS and their connections well wishes with their colt, but we also wanted to take the time to commend the contributions of this mare to the racing world.

To date, Rosalind has now produced nine foals and of the nine all of them have made profound impacts in their own rights. With four grade ones, one of which being TC champion Admiral's Revenge, and the other older retired foals Bucephalus and Requiem being breeding legends in their own rights, it's easy to see that she's has been mother to some of the biggest names in the racing industry and the grand dam to some of the current greats. Grand Dam to 26 racers, she has been the foundation for horses like Sunset Crusade, Euphoria's Warrior, Lusitania's Soldier, War Cry, Akumabuelle, Battle Wings, Hellfire, Firefall, Winning Fire, Jericho, Adrasteia, Wings of Angels, Enchanting Soldier and many others. Amongst those are BC Classic Winners, Derby Leg Winners, Belmont Stakes Winners, near miss TT Winners and the list goes on.

So while we are sad to see the last of this mare's direct descendents, we know that through her foals and their foals, we will always have a little piece of Rosie to inspire and change the name of the racing game. ACANTHA POISED TO TAKE HER MOTHER'S PLACE

In a timely fashion, it seems that Acantha's retirement time couldn't have been planned more brilliantly. Requiem, Admiral's Revenge and other direct Rosalind descendants are going to become harder and harder to come by. It looks though that this Like A Cheetah daughter out of Rosalind though is primed to step up and take her mother's place. There has yet to be any finalized kind of plan as to who the freshly retired mare will be booked to first, but we do know this...If she's anything like her mother, then there are some exciting times ahead.
