DEVIL'S BLESSING && TALIA SMITH
WHITE ROSE && JAMES COLLURA
ARLEQUINN && DEVON BLACKTHORN
Next up was the older turf horses of Firestone. The first horse to come onto the track was the dark bay stallion, Arlequinn. His start to the season wasn’t the best, due to the fact he was pretty much left in a field with little to no racing contact until Firestone picked him up. He was hot off of a win in the Alpenglow Stakes, and his next race was a bit undecided at this point. The second turfer was another horse that was left in a field after Evergreen Racing shut down unexpectedly. She was the bright bay mare by the name of White Rose. Her last race was in October, and her next one was December Week Three in the End Of Year Turf Stakes. She was very hyper right now, showing her eagerness to get back to work. Her jockey James was someone she had grown to love in that very short period of time that Firestone had her. Last came the bay fire bolt, Devil’s Blessing. He was in a second place slump with hopes of getting a win soon.
All the runners were on the track now and trotting beside each other. Rose and Cian looked like they were ready to rip at each other’s throats due to their dominant nature. Talia and James separated the two and stuck Airy the middle. The trio horses were lead over to the gates after a five minute warm up. Cian was the first to load, with Airy in the middle and Rose on the outside. Waiting patiently for the gates, the horses stomped in anticipation. When the gates broke open, all three horses broke cleanly and settled into their positions. Cian shot to the front; followed by Rose right on his tail and Airy closed the field at the back.
Cian was still leading after a few furlongs and made sure his stamina was locked away and ready for the last part of the race. Rose was watching the colt closely as she was pushed a little bit forward by James, who had her settle at his belly. Airy stayed where he was and kept himself ready for the attack when it was needed. He was extremely good at using his sprinting abilities to be able to bore down on the younger horses.
The final turn approached quickly, and Cian and Rose were head and head as they fought down the stretch. Airy found another gear and Devon held on as the stallion charged forwards, clearly still having gas in the tank. Talia pushed Cian forwards and the colt responded immediately and started to pull away from Rose, but the mare was having none of it. James flashed his whip and she thundered forwards and stole the win from Cian by a nose. Airy fought hard and beat out Cian by a whisker, who had unwillingly dropped to third.
