DANCING FOOL Jockeyed by Carlos Sanchez
The Fanfreluche Stakes Workout - Feb Wk1
February was just around the corner and Carlos was prepared to get all of his horses ready for their races. First on his list was Dancing Fool or known as Bane as everyone called him. Bane was a horse who demanded respect while he didn't get along with other colts he was a still a gentleman despite his attitudes. The son of Dancing in the Moonlight was maturing well from a yearling to a juvenile. Bane was a full brother to Moondance who won races like The Dubai World Cup, The Breeders cup Classic, the El Sol Del Mar Memorial Stakes and a whole lot more. Others were curious to know if Bane would accomplish that or greater and they would find out.
Carlos walked the bay colt onto the tracks as he was fired up already. Feisty as he was Bane loved his job and moved his neck and head to snip at Carlos feet on the saddle as if to say lets go. The Jockey knew what Bane was doing and wouldn't fall for his moods. The colt was expecting to run in the Fanfreluche stakes as one of his first known major races as Bane broke his maiden his first race out at the Janvier Maiden he was on a roll for the time being. Carlos decided to start the colt towards a canter and then a trot so that he wouldn't get too excited. With a recent surface supreme Bane was now able to conquer both the dirt tracks and the turf which could mean danger towards others.
Bane was very fast and when he did take the lead he took off not allowing others to pass him. Challenges came to Bane up and down the tracks and he took them like nothing. Eventually the colt would take on older more experienced horses and he would fight them to the finish. This week he would be up against his own age group which made things interesting. Holding gate one was Baciami a bay colt sired by Comeuppance out of Cute Italian. He too also broke his maiden the first race out. Gate two was Palisades Pirate running for Stride of Perfection stables. Palisades Pirate was also a front runner and Bane would certainly keep match with him and precede his moves. Avatar held Gate three a horse for recently returned stables Durango Racing stables. Bane took gate four proudly holding his head high as always.
Ascending to a gallop, Carlos began Bane outside of the rail where the dirt was softer and could be dangerous for any horse running on it. Moving his strides farther out Dancing Fool began to pick up speed allowing his rider to hold on for dear life. The colt was very much like his own sire this colt could go for miles with the stamina he had in him. Coming to the back stretch Carlos slowed Bane down to hold off his energy pulling back the reins gently. "Woah Bane easy there boy not yet." Carlos said still keeping him from the rail. Bane did just as his jockey wanted even he didn't like it he knew it was to early to break away to the wire at this rate. Bane's ears pulled back as he galloped at an even stride waiting to be let loose from this stretch.
The bay colt snorted as he had to wait to push forward even faster. Carlos watched for the pole and just as it came into site Carlos then set Bane free to run as he saw fit at the fastest pace he wanted to go. Bane nickered as he bolted off pushing his back legs on the ground and his front legs pulling his body and rider forward at an even faster pace that looked like Bane was gliding off the ground. The colt would have a busy year and an even busier 3 year old year. Bane sped up as he turned the corner and was still searching lengths as he approached the home stretch Bane noticed the finish line was all his and passed it with his head moving up and down with the achievement.
Carlos turned the colt around after slowing him down and walked him off the practice track. Patting the colt's neck Carlos laughed, "How bout we keep this pace when race day starts huh Bane..." He said trotting the colt off the tracks to get cleaned up. Bane was greeted by fans and photographers and Carlos only waved to them and smiled. "You will be able to see him during the race guys." He said keeping the colt walking as he snorted once again. After cleaning Bane down he walked back to the stalls so Bane could rest his energy for the race. "See you soon Bane. Be good huh." Carlos said giving the colt a half bucket of oats to award him for the day.
