LADY'S START
A new year was starting and Nature Blues had a new yearling crop to train and get ready for next year. Today was a perfect day and Mason Connelly and Meredith Hently would take out Admiral's Lady for her first session out on the dirt tracks. Mason grabbed the reins and saddle to latch the lead rope onto the halter where Mira bucked and kicked in frustration. This filly was not your typical filly she was a daughter to Admiral's Revenge out of Dashing in the Firelight both incredible horses to the tracks her sire being a MHS Triple Crown Winner. Mira had already won the Y13 Best Bred Tournament which had the staff team in excitement.
"Easy their Mira I'm not going to hurt you." He said attaching the lead rope and pulling her out of the stall with her huffing and snagging Mason got her to settle down. She had the mean temper her Sire desired and the determination her dam had. Meredith approached the two slowly feeding her some carrots to get acquainted with her. "Hey girl the last time I saw you, you were just a baby." Meredith said a little nervous to be walking her for the first time to see how she would handle the pressure on her back with the saddle and reins. "We are just going to walk her along the side of the dirt tracks so she can get a feel of what she has to accomplish." Mason said trying to keep her steady handing the reins and lead rope to Meredith as Mira would be her horse.
Meredith took the reins and nodded. Keeping her head high she started to walk Mira hoping and praying that this filly would not have a bad day. She had new shoes in and a fresh clean grooming each morning. "See Mira we can be the closest friends." She said rubbing the fillies muzzle to praise her calmed manner. The black bay filly would be entered into the Janvier Prospect for her first entry ever against others. Admiral's Lady was not one to play with others in fact when in the paddock she stayed clear of the other yearlings and if so she was the leader of the yearling crop at Nature Blue Stables.
The filly was moving tremendously and she would be fierce and strong against those others. Gate one of this prospect race was Enrapture by Witch Creek Stables, Gate two Aphrodite's Chant took pride like her sire Positively Precious. Gate Three was Night Visions who ran under Intrepid Racings colors. Every one of these yearlings may end up being Mira's rivals when they became juveniles. Mira's nasty attitude was Meredith's main worry however she had confidence in Mira to use her attitude to her advantage. After it seemed like Mira had enough Meredith turned the filly back to the stalls where Mason waited with his book and timer.
"I felt nothing wrong except she kept trying to step on my toes." She said before tying the rope on the pole and took the saddle off of her back. Mason checked her knees and hooves and smiled softly. "Yearlings are unpredictable Mira here doesn't flinch to anything so we can't be to sure. She looked perfect we won't push her this first prospect keep her steady." He said grabbing a few brushes and started to groom her from the saddle being on her back. Mira bobbed her head trying to remove the tied rope. She was not going to give into this nature. Meredith grabbed her halter and placed the saved bucket of oats in front of her. "You need to be brushed you stubborn girl." Meredith said praying the other jockey's wouldn't have difficulty.
She rubbed her neck gently and took in the notes Mason had written down. They had to take steady steps to get Mira comfortable with the tracks. She had a lot of her dam in her as well and in awhile both Green Horse Fields and The Wire would see her lineage back on the tracks and ready to roll. This filly was a surprisement and she still amazed the team with her efforts.
