The Consumato Derby was next on the agenda, it was the third leg of The Risorgimento Cup. This race would bring some recognition if the horses won. There were new entries towards the cup and it seemed now to be for all grades. Two bays approached the track with their heads high and proud one with an attitude of wild mustang. Both horses were ridden by well known jockey's for the stables of Nature Blues. This race was more advanced then the previous two.
Chris Stevens would be riding GS Super Charged who just won the Novisio Derby and just recently moved to Grade 3. He would be a prime in his 4 year old season. The bay colt was slowly moving up in the ranks but he certainly put up a show. He would be taking gate six in this race and be taking on a new route. He had a good weeks rest and would be prepared to take on the entries to this race. Chris would be patient and not rush his equine friend as it took courage and a prayer to win big races.
Alongside Chris and Ben, was Carlos Sanchez and The Rising. The Rising was much more experienced then Ben and older but was also Grade 3. He had won races like the Intipidio Finish Derby and the Jauness Derby and many more. He is of Hall of Famed blood being sired by The Natural. This stallion had a lot to live up to. He stood 17.0hh much taller than GS Super Charged. He would be in Gate Two looking proudly ahead.
The two horses approached the track together GS Super Charged grew hasty with the male horse next to him and moved forward without the permission of his jockey. Ben wasn't much for playing with others and Chris grinned towards the sudden movement. "Woah Ben its alright buddy." Chris said as he looked back at Carlos wanting to know when they were gonna get started.
Carlos was just starting to have a bond with The Rising. The 4 year old was in his prime but was moving slowly in the ranks. Carlos moved Ri to start out with a canter ahead of GS Super Charged. The stallion was very tall and his muscular shoulders moved him swell on the dirt tracks. The Rising was a machine on the tracks but, it wasn't long until Chris had GS Super Charged soon follow the other bay horse with much power.
The Rising was at a full gallop by now but, with his versatile movements he came to a slow pace to allow the closer GS Super Charged to be by his side. Ben moved his four legs with all the power he had and moved on the outside of the stallion. The two horses were side by side now Ri starting to stalk the same movements as GS Super Charged. These two horses never had a workout with one another it would be something to look at in the future.
Both of these horses were Grade 3 and entered into the same race. Near the end of the back stretch and onto the final turn The Rising took over and started to drift ahead of Ben like escaping a rapid dog. But, with much practice and patience GS Super Charged took on another gear that was inspiring to his jockey. Ben was once again at the side of Rising and the two were in a battle to the finish. This was an easy workout and of course only took full advantage at the end of the workout. Both horses passed the wire equally and both jockey's were smiling.
"What a run." Carlos said praising Ri with his fantastic run. The Rising pounded the ground softly as Chris stopped Ben right beside the two. Chris shook his head and moved Ben to head back to the stables for the Consumato Derby. Nature Blues wanted this win if The Rising or GS Super Charged won it would have been great but, with the fantastic entrants already in place they would pray for it.
