[Alluring Assault] & Nick Landing - Prep for Anathema Race Three
The seasoned mare cantered in a cool collection as FS Mockingbird loped behind her. The bay mare had a big race coming up and Nick was prepping her against the virulent Jay. Kyle was having a grand 'ole time keeping the chestnut stallion in check, his eyes were locked onto the bay mare, ever lurking in front of him. He'd claimed second place in his last outing and Nick couldn't have been more pleased with the chestnut's climb up in his placements, next was a win hopefully for the Oddside son...one more win and he'd been able to start prepping for the graded stakes...as a grade one.
Allure had already achieved the coveted grade one status, but now was the time to do the leg work. The Twilight Stakes was swiftly approaching and Nick wanted Allure to get as much positive experience as possible.
It had been a solid month since her last outing and she'd come in a whisker behind the Admiral's Revenge son. Nick felt the powerful churning motion of the filly beneath him. She was fresh and eager as she pulled for more of her head. The muscles rippled in the mares toned and sleek form, she was hungry for more. Nick thought of how far the bay mare had come. She'd been making a come back since the end of the last year, but now it seemed that this year she was really making a mark here on The Wire tracks.
It wasn't going to be an easy race this week. Star Thoroughbreds had a few entries and were going to make their presence well-known. Silent Fury was coming off of a win from the Summer Cup on GHF. The win had placed her just into the Grade 2 category. The mare would be running in the front. Strike a Pose was another Star Thoroughbred entry, who in may had also climbed into Grade 2. The four year old mare liked to run as a preceder and was more rested than her stable mate Silent Fury. Then there was Worldbreaker from SOPS. This 5 year old stallion boasted excellent breeding and was also Grade 2, but only needed this one win to launch him into the Grade 1 arena. Nick noted the stallion. He could be running in the back with Allure.
He didn't particularly like that fact, but he knew Allure was more the rested and capable, but they would have to race with tact and cunning. Nick turned and waved Kyle and Jay up. The chestnut had been waiting the whole warmup for this. Like a blazing rocket, the four year old stallion zoomed up and past the waiting Allure.
The mare locked her eyes on the younger stallion and Nick eased the mare more rein. Like a smooth roll, the bay mare kicked the pace up as she changed her lead into a cruising gallop. Nick felt the focused mare in her entirety. She was eager. Nick felt her passion and zest as she calculated from behind and she didn't let the chestnut gain an inch. Three furlongs passed and one remained. Nick gave Allure her head and with little effort began her charge, gaining ground, her eyes fixed on the prize.
Nick smiled. If she ran like this in her race, he knew, that she would give the competition a run for their money. She was seasoned, older, well-rested and back to redeem herself. Now was the time to start winning and Nick hoped that that would be the situation here....one race at a time.
